The passing of Richard Turpin - Club, Life and retired Committee Member

Dear Member,

The passing of Richard Turpin - Club, Life and retired Committee Member

Earlier this year I had the sad task of notifying you of the passing of a valued club and committee member and just a few short months later I have with a very very great sadness have to let you know that another long term and exceptionally loyal club and retired committee member has passed away.

Richard's long time partner Anne, called me on Bank Holiday Monday to let me know that Richard had passed away. I have known Richard for over 50 years and know just how much he loved our club and how much he put into working for our future.

Richard joined the badminton section of this club in 1981 and within a couple of years joined the badminton committee. Richard was instrumental in starting up new sessions to bring new members to the club and later helped with the coaching of juniors.

Following his acceptance as badminton Chairman, Richard became badminton's representative on the Management Committee until he retired in 2018. During that time he worked tirelessly for the club in its entirety supporting all sections of the club with suggestions ideas and many donations for special causes. His loyalty to and work for the club was recognised by the club management committee many years ago who proposed that he be awarded a life membership. The club members at AGM agreed and the proposal was passed.

Richard has made many many friends hear at the club all of whom will miss him sorely. In latter years he took to playing snooker with a few 'old members' who could be seen every Wednesday afternoon racing, yes racing around the table.

Anne remains a member and yesterday came down to the club to chat with the snooker 'boys' and other members.

For many this is the end of an era and we will all miss Richard greatly. We now look to move forward to a new era which is exactly what Richard would expect us all to do.
